Lucía Álvarez Núñez-Concert Pianist and Teacher

 Lucía Álvarez Núñez is a concert pianist and music educator based in the Netherlands. An experienced performer, she is known for her enthusiasm and dedication to the piano by audiences, collaborators, and students alike. Since relocating to the Netherlands in 2024, she has 
taught piano at the International School Delft, as well as maintained multiple collaborative ensembles, participating in festivals such as the Chamber Music Festival in Delft and the Day of the Composer in Rotterdam. She has also worked as a
substitute collaborative pianist and external examiner at Codarts Rotterdam, both in the piano department and the artistic research program for master students.
Until 2024, she was based in California, where she earned a Doctorate in Piano Performance at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) under the tutelage of Paul Berkowitz. Her dissertation Isaac Albéniz and the construction of a Spanish sound: a study of Iberia focused on the interplay between Albéniz’s Spanish nationalism and French training on the composer’s compositional style, and culminated in a lecture recital on the keyboard masterpiece Iberia. At UCSB, she taught piano to undergraduate and graduate students in individual and group lessons, as well as music appreciation/history.

Also, while in the USA, she obtained a Performance Diploma from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University (IU), where she studied with pianist Roberto Plano. At IU, she was an active collaborative pianist and received lessons with pianist Anne Epperson. She also obtained an Artist Diploma at Ball State University, studying with Robert Palmer, where she taught one-to-one piano lessons, and served as piano accompanist for undergraduate and graduate recitals, as well as for the Ball State Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra.

Previously, Lucía was based in London, where she obtained a Master's degree at Trinity Laban School of Music and Dance under Martino Tirimo, as well as studying with Mikhail Kazakevich. In London, she performed in venues such as Wigmore Hall, Old Royal Naval College, Blackheath Halls, and St. Bride's, while also maintaining a studio of 30 students. Her performance career takes her back frequently to Spain, where she's played in venues such as Palacio de la Opera, Teatro Jofre, and the music festival Musica en el Claustro.

Lucía has performed in masterclasses with artists such as Emanuel Ax, Stephen Hough, Imre Rohmann, and Andras Kemenes. She has participated in Summer Festivals such as Dartington Music Summer School and Festival (England), InterHarmony International Music Festival (England and Germany), Musica d’Estate at Bardonecchia (Italy), and International Music Master Classes Tata (Hungary).
